About capacitance units
Capacitance measures how much charge a component stores per volt applied. The farad is a very large unit, so practical capacitors are rated in microfarads, nanofarads or picofarads — the reason most capacitance conversions span several orders of magnitude.
Capacitance is charge stored per potential difference: 1 F = 1 C/V. The microfarad, nanofarad and picofarad differ by factors of 1000; these unit changes preserve the component’s stated tolerance.
