About radioactivity units
Radioactivity counts nuclear decays per second. One becquerel is one decay per second — a very small unit, so practical measurements use kilo- and megabecquerels. The older curie is exactly 3.7 × 10¹⁰ Bq, the approximate activity of one gram of radium-226.
Activity counts decays: 1 Bq = 1 decay/s and 1 Ci = 3.7 × 10¹⁰ Bq. Activity alone does not determine absorbed or equivalent dose; the radionuclide, exposure pathway and geometry also matter.
