About equivalent dose units
Equivalent dose applies radiation weighting factors to absorbed dose and is measured in sieverts. The older unit, the rem, is exactly 0.01 Sv. Equivalent dose and effective dose use sieverts but describe different quantities; preserve the quantity stated in the source measurement.
Sieverts and rem express weighted radiation dose: 1 rem = 0.01 Sv. This page changes units only; it does not determine weighting factors, effective dose or health risk from an absorbed dose.
