About torque units
Torque is a turning force: a force applied at a distance from an axis. It shares its dimensions with energy, but the two are different quantities, so torque is written N·m or lbf·ft while energy is written J or ft·lbf. Torque wrenches are the most common reason to convert between them.
Pound-foot and pound-inch here use pound-force. Although torque and energy share dimensions, torque describes a turning effect; these values do not become energy values without an angular displacement.
